NASCAR Champions
This page shows the NASCAR Champions from 1949 up to 2006 and soon will include Jimmie Johnson again as he won the 2007 Nextel Cup Championship. NASCAR has used various point systems since 1949 to determine their series champion. The current point system which was adopted in 1975, gives points to all the drivers, so long as they entered the race prior to the specific entry deadline. NASCAR uses the same point system for every race, regardless of the distance or type of track.
