Track History

Most of the history of the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez comes from Formula One racing. In fact, it was the success of a Mexican-born Formula One racer, Ricardo Rodriguez, which hastened the track's creation. In August 2004, NASCAR announced the track would host a Busch Series event, beginning in 2005.

Historical Note

The track opened in 1963, and hosted the Mexican Grand Prix (F1) until 1970, when F1 became concerned about track security. F1 returned in 1986 after the track was rebuilt, and ran until the 1991 race, after which the event was discontinued because of the increasingly rough surface, among other things. The track was rebuilt again and CART (Champcar) started running there in 2002. Champcar uses a variant course; a baseball stadium builtinside the (in)famous banked Peralta turn has a chicane through it for Champcar,
